"So give me the good and the bad of owning a home based business."

Pros

Personal Freedom

Picture
It is totally understandable that you may "like" your job.  However lets be honest, there are days you do not want to go to work.  There are days you want to be somewhere else besides work.  There are days you hate your boss and if you are the boss, there are days that you hate being responsible for other people.  Having your own business puts you in control of you.  You decide when you want to work and how much effort you put into it.  You decide how you're going to spend your day. You are responsible for you and that's a good feeling

Financial Freedom

Having a home based business puts you in the drivers seat of the financial freedom car.  You decide where you want to go and how fast you want to get there.  It is no secret that millions of people today are making a decent income from home.  So whether you need a few extra hundred dollars a month to start paying off credit card debt or you're wanting a better full time income to better your standard of living, a home business could be the best solution.

The 21st Century Business

The internet is now the worlds information center.  There is an assortment of information, ideas, goods, and services being exchanged daily over the internet.  Every business is moving toward this 21st century business style.  Can you think of a business that does not offer some type of internet service? Probably not.  The internet has made having a home based business much more possible for the masses.

There is help available

Don't stress. There is plenty of help available!
One of the best things about deciding to start your own home business is that there is so much help available.  There is a huge amount of information and opportunities available for business owners to learn and grow a business.  Of course some help is better than others, but it's good to know that one can know very little to nothing about starting a home based business and still be successful.

Cons

Lots of Hardwork (especially in the beginning)

Owning a traditional business takes work.  Owning a home based business is not different.  If you want to create a passive income and a steady business, you are going to have to put in some work.  When most people decide to start a business at home they also work some type of outside job.  Your work load will increase for a while.  Although the benefits of success are great, the work you will have to put in (especially in the beginning) may seem a little overwhelming.

You Will Not Get Rich Over Night

Picture
Free money is a trap!

It is a misconception that the internet can make a person rich overnight. That is simply not true.  Although the internet can lead you to a great income, you are not going to be rich overnight.  If you are looking for a quick and fast way to make money, then a home business is not for you.  There is no such thing as free money.

Your income may fluctuate month to month.

Like any business, the money made from month to month changes.  A home business is no different.  The monthly income may change depending on the market. The success of a home business (like any business) comes in creating a decent minimum income (the least you expect to earn every month) and enjoying the rest.

You will have start up costs.

Picture
Can you think of any business that had zero start up costs? This is not really a con, however; it is a common misconception.  For some reason, people seem to think that they can start a business with no money down.  That doesn't even make sense!  Every business, whether traditional or home based, has a start up cost  The good news is that home based businesses have a much smaller start up costs that traditional businesses.  A home business may cost anywhere between 200-700 dollars to start up.  A traditional business can cost anywhere between 15,000-200,000 dollars to start.  Which do you prefer?
